Scorhill

Arranged in a circle nearly 90 feet in diameter, only about half of the estimated 70 standing stones remain at this site on the northeastern fringe of Dartmoor National Park. The most prominent member rises 8 feet above the ground near the northeast point on the circle. Archaeoastronomers suspect its positioning may have been an intended alignment with most extreme moonrise to the north as seen from the heart of the circle.

The Devon fog graciously lifted to help with lighting for a series of photographs of this delightful ensemble. Scorhill, which is actually in a swail surrounded by gentle hillsides has wonderful Feng Shui, inspiring serenity protected by the obvious solitude of the rugged moorlands.
